A Legacy Built Over Time
Tracing our roots and the foundation of excellence.
Govt Sarada Sundari Mohila College is one of the oldest and most reputed women’s colleges in Faridpur, Bangladesh. Established to promote higher education for girls in a historically underserved district, it has grown into a comprehensive degree‑granting institution under the national education system. The college now offers Higher Secondary, Bachelor’s Honours, and Masters programs in Humanities, Science, and Business Studies, serving a large number of female students every year. Its central location in Faridpur town and Bengali‑medium instruction make it accessible to local communities. Over the decades, the institution has evolved in both academic standards and infrastructure while maintaining its core mission of empowering women through quality education and disciplined learning.

The college traces its roots to 1966, when it was founded as Sarada Sundari Mohila College by a group of local education‑minded citizens led by Swargīyā Śrī Chandrakānta Nath. In its first academic year, it started with only 29 students in the Humanities group at the Higher Secondary (HSC) level under the Dhaka Board. Miss Mushthari Begum became the first full‑time principal in February 1968 and guided the institution through its early years, laying the foundation for academic discipline and institutional culture. The college initially operated with limited buildings and modest facilities, gradually expanding its classrooms and hostels. A major milestone came on 1 March 1980, when the Government of Bangladesh nationalized it and renamed it Govt Sarada Sundari Mohila College, Faridpur.

Today, Govt Sarada Sundari Mohila College continues to play a vital role in advancing women’s higher education in Faridpur and beyond. Its legacy lies in producing generations of educated women who have gone on to become teachers, civil servants, professionals, and community leaders. The college remains committed to improving academic standards, modernizing infrastructure, and integrating with national education policies and admission systems. With dedicated hostels, growing academic buildings, and a strong emphasis on discipline and quality teaching, it aims to remain among the leading women’s colleges in the district. Future initiatives are expected to focus on digital learning, expanded facilities, and broader subject offerings, ensuring that the institution stays relevant and inclusive for the coming generations of female students.
